Progress at Nuevo Vallarta - Linda In Seattle

December 18, 2012

First let us say, we are honored to be able to share all the information we receive from everyone, not only about the construction prgress at Nuevo Vallarta, but also at Riviera Maya and the other active resort locations. The term "everyone" is a broad term, and we are proud to say the term includes members of Vida Vacations management too.

To put everything in perspective, on November 14, 2012, management allowed us to interview them about the construction taking place at Nuevo Vallarta and estimated timelines for completion. You can see the interview by following this link: CN Nov142012 Interview

The interesting aspect of our interview was management's candor and willingness to discuss timelines. Now we all know about timelines.....they are estimates only. Too many variables can get in the way of being on time unless all the variables are taken away. Not likely in Nuevo Vallarta, for sure.

Anyway, December 15, 2012 was the estimated date that management and all the many crews working on the various projects were trying to meet. So, what is the progress todate?

Guess what....we received Linda in Seattle's update from Nuevo Vallarta. Oh, she is actually in Nuevo Vallarta, not Seattle. Here is her report:
Hi Bob and Mary Ann,

Just a quick Dec 18, 2012 update with photos. I'll send more in the next couple days.

Elevated walkways: the elevated wooden walkways are still being constructed but there's great progress each day. They are starting to connect the walkways across the tram roads now. Looks like there will be some stairs up and over the tram roads on some of the walkways to increase the tram clearance below. When they were first being built it looked like there was no rhyme nor reason to their locations but now that I see the segments connecting I see the logic.

Punta pool and Si restaurant: the Punta pool has water today! They must have filled it yesterday or during the night. There is still a lot of construction on the pool decks but they are placing some chaise lounges and umbrellas. Planting is going on. No access yet to the pool though due to the ongoing construction. They have put up the forms for the Si restaurant's walls. The concrete trucks should arrive today I think to pour the walls. As people have said, it looks like there are kitchens (?) below ground, then the restaurant on top of that. Will be eager to see if there are really hot tubs on the roof of the restaurant as rumored.

Moats: Still being constructed. There is one segment near the Punta pool that appears complete but is not connected to the rest of the segments yet. The plastic liners are almost complete. They are narrowing the earthen dams between the segments in anticipation of taking them out but the road across the tops of the earthen dams are the access to the construction areas so until construction is done they will remain. They have dug out a little side canal near GL1 and Punta, perhaps a boat turnaround or boat parking area or another dock?? Not sure. They broke through the plastic liner to create the side canal so I'm not sure it was planned from the get-go.

Sanctuario: This is just a fabulous space and is absolutely beautiful at night. There are more people each time we go in the evening so word is getting out about it. The entertainment continues to be good.

Crowded resort: The holiday crowds came in last weekend. The Grand Mayan pool and beach and the GL pools are crowded! The Grand Bliss and the Mayan Palace pools always have chaises though. This is a big vacation time for Mexican families and there are many large multi-generational family groups at the resort enjoying the holiday together. We've been hearing some Russian, German and French too. We really enjoy the multi-cultural ambiance.

I'm attaching 4 photos. More to come soon.

Linda in Seattle
Thank you Linda. What a great report! Wish we were there too.

It looks like there is still much to do. That said, it appears the "heavy lifting" is over for now and the details are coming together. BTW, don't forget the Adult Pool near the beach. That is a popular spot too.

Wow! A massive amount of work, and yet there is plenty of room for guests to enjoy their vacations.

Linda posted her first report on December 10. We are looking forward to your updates. And....
We will all stay tuned....
